The coronavirus outbreak has challenged us to stop, take a step back, and breathe some life into the more solitary work that we do, like songwriting. But that doesn\u2019t mean you have to wait until COVID-19 passes and any quarantine has lifted to get back to collaborating with other musicians. Here are five ways that you can collaborate with other musicians while waiting out coronavirus:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-google-hangout-open-mic-nbsp\"><strong>Google Hangout Open Mic&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During these weeks of social isolation, what better way to share your music with your friends than having a video-chat open mic. Whether it\u2019s through Google Hangouts, Skype, or another video-chat-based service, turn on your microphone and get ready to share a tune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-listen-to-a-record-all-the-way-through-and-discuss\"><strong>Listen to a Record All the Way through and Discuss<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s like a book club, but for full albums. If you have a record player and a bunch of vinyl, great! You already know the warm sounds of a record, and what it\u2019s like to hold the album cover in your hands, examining every liner note the artist you\u2019re listening to ever thought you\u2019d want to know about! But even if you don\u2019t own a turntable, you can listen to full albums online, and examine PDFs of the covers.&nbsp; Then set up a time to video chat with some friends to discuss the album. Before you hang up, be sure to choose the next album for the next meeting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jqbx-fm\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/jqbx.fm\/\" target=\"_blank\">JQBX.fm<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2386\" height=\"2030\" data-id=\"14301\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-17-at-1.44.57-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14301\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"956\" height=\"819\" data-id=\"14300\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/yo-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14300\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember the craze that was turntable.fm? It was essentially a virtual music venue where music fans could listen to music together. However, a lot of the music on the site was unlicensed, so the site was shut down in 2013. JQBX (JU\u00b7KE\u00b7BOX) has recreated the platform for the Spotify era! It is a new music app that lets you listen to songs in sync with groups across the world. It displays lists of user-created private or public rooms, each with one or more DJs picking and choosing songs. Users can save, search, or create rooms, or \u201cbe a DJ\u201d when you join a room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-free-synth-apps-nbsp\"><strong>Free Synth Apps&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Moog-Korg-app-free.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14290\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Free apps are available through Korg and Moog now!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of the biggest names in analog synthesizers\u2014Korg and Moog\u2014have each made one of their popular synth apps free for a limited time. Moog is offering up the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/minimoog-model-d-synthesizer\/id1339418001\" target=\"_blank\">Minimoog Model D for iOS<\/a>. It works best on an iPad. Meanwhile, Korg is offering the Kaossilator app for iOS or Android. The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/korg-ikaossilator\/id452559831\" target=\"_blank\">iOS<\/a> app is free through the month of March and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=jp.co.korg.kaossilator.android\" target=\"_blank\">Android version<\/a> is free through March 20.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-remote-recording-collaboration\"><strong>Remote Recording Collaboration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2564\" height=\"1148\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-17-at-1.47.53-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14295\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">By collaborating on Soundtrap, you can collaborate on songs remotely.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you been eager to ask your friend for a guest-solo or to collaborate on a cover of your favorite song? Social distancing has given us the perfect opportunity to create new music while honing your music production skills. With a simple home setup and a free Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) like GarageBand, Audacity, or Pro Tools First, you can record, mix, and bounce tracks to other musicians throughout the world. Also, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundtrap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">soundtrap<\/a> site is a great way to collaborate as if you&#8217;re both on the same DAW.
