Early in 2021, Sushant performed for the first time in more than a year at a sold-out show at the biggest outdoor venue in Nepal. He is pursuing his bachelor\u2019s in <a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/music-degrees\/undergraduate\/songwriting-and-producing-music?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-link-from-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Songwriting and Producing Music<\/a>, and had Berklee Online CEO Debbie Cavalier as his instructor for <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/courses\/music-theory-101?pid=8023&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-article-promotion\" target=\"_blank\">Music Theory 101<\/a> <\/em>this past semester. Needless to say, she gave him a rare extension on his assignment, and a big congratulations.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe energy interchange with the audience is what I live for,\u201d says Sushant KC. \u201cI was filled with immense joy after the event.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SUSHANT KC - Live at LOD, Kathmandu - 13th March, 2021\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rZrDGz6F2E4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sushant KC performing a sold-out show at Lord of the Drinks in Nepal. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, the concert took place when Nepal was out of lockdown for COVID-19, but currently, much of South Asia is experiencing a major uptick in cases due to the spread of variants. Sushant KC is still able to keep working and stay positive.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe times we live in demands us to stay safe and avoid crowded places, which is fine and for the better,\u201d he says. \u201cI utilize my time making new music and planning the things I need to do to excel in my music career. Other than that, I think we all realize the importance of life and our existence more. We have time for ourselves and our family.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sushant KC is a self-taught musician from Kathmandu, and studying at Berklee Online has been his first formal music training. After finishing his A-levels in school (a test for students ages 16 and over), he began writing music at home and learning guitar. After recording his first album, he knew he wanted to pursue music professionally, though he knew he\u2019d face hardships.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Nepal, every parent wants their child to be either a doctor, engineer, lawyer, businessman or woman, or at most, an athlete, but no one wants their young ones to be a musician,\u201d he says. \u201cThe value of art and artists is less. It is not a prestigious job as per the social system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2026\" height=\"1141\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Lord-of-the-Drinks.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16424\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sushant KC performing at Lord of the Drinks.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He says that his parents are supportive of his career path, but that it is culturally rare. The cultural concern is that it is hard for musicians to sustain themselves in Nepal pursuing solely music. With this in mind, Sushant KC decided to enroll in business school in Sydney, Australia.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFinancial stability is important, but that is what is interesting about musicians and artists is we don\u2019t care about all that and we want to do what we love,\u201d says Sushant KC. \u201cIn the past few years, it has been proven that music or art can actually yield good financial returns as the whole world is adapting to independent artistry.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Sushant KC is an excellent example of this. His YouTube videos have millions of views, and he says that the royalties actually sustained him through business school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sushant KC - Maya ma (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nBfaj_blvB8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sushant\u2019s music video for his song \u201cMaya ma\u201d has more than 24 million views on YouTube. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t have to work a single day when I was in Sydney studying business, just because I had my royalties coming from YouTube and other streaming platforms,\u201d he says. \u201cBut people won\u2019t believe it here, which is what I want to change.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While he was studying business, he started looking into music schools to pursue what he was passionate about, and what was paying his bills.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBerklee was the first school I applied to and fortunately I got in,\u201d he says. \u201cI realized learning in one of the best music schools would be the best path for me to hone my skills and to become a professional musician.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his classes, Sushant KC is currently working on a project called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tuborg.com\/en\/tuborg-open\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tuborg Open<\/a> (an initiative organized by the liquor brand Tuborg). The project has him collaborating with David Guetta and Nepalese rapper <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Uniq Poet (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/english.onlinekhabar.com\/uniq-poet-made-a-name-for-himself-in-nepals-hip-hop-now-he-wants-to-do-more.html\" target=\"_blank\">Uniq Poet<\/a> on.
