In this wide-ranging interview, she discusses taking classes with Berklee Online, playing White Stripes covers, and the honor of being nominated in the \u201cBest Global Music Performance\u201d Grammy category, which is brand new this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis realm that we\u2019ve created is something that you don\u2019t hear that often,\u201d she says of her music.\u201cIt\u2019s jazz, and it\u2019s American folk, and it\u2019s also just scratching the surface of pop, and it feels really good that we\u2019ve arrived here, and it\u2019s refreshing to have made music that isn\u2019t really around that much. &#8230;&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This music is not \u2018traditional,\u2019 it is not \u2018world,\u2019 it is actually really personal to my experience of like, going to Berklee, living in New York, hanging out with whoever.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She also discusses in depth&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how she composed some of her most poignant music, and the patient nature of the songs on&nbsp;<em>Vulture Prince<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat\u2019s kind of my thing, to use negative space as an instrument itself, and to be unhurried and to kind of let the music feel like its own language, and the lyrics and the vocalist are not a songwriter type of sound.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note<\/strong>: The 64th Annual Grammy Awards are currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 3 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
