It was such an enormous viral success\u2014with more than 17 million views\u2014that they wrote more verses and released a full version on <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/6uL6HCOsEwvnmCX4cDf65g?si=6d282f8b98554507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Spotify (opens in a new tab)\">Spotify<\/a>. Barton encouraged Savage to write the irresistibly happy song after dealing with hurtful comments online, and it&#8217;s quickly become an anthem of self-acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"corook - if i were a fish ft. olivia barton (music video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dx_vMONe3tM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;if i were a fish&#8221; by corook, featuring Olivia Barton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Boston.com (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/the-boston-globe\/2023\/04\/28\/if-i-were-a-fish-song-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\">Boston.com<\/a> Savage says, \u201cYou can see in the video how happy I am. It was really healing to be seen and heard by another human that I love so much, and this song just made me feel so happy to be who I was\u2014who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/instructors\/scarlet-keys?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scarlet Keys<\/a>, who is a songwriting course author and instructor at Berklee Online, taught Corinne when they were at Berklee&#8217;s Boston campus. In the same interview, Keys says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCorinne is one of my unforgettable students over my 20 years of teaching. Davis is a member of Gossard&#8217;s band <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/7kmm4Wi3pbsCHHIYqgYgX9?si=TL8t710zRJqKySTB5xKDMQ\" target=\"_blank\">Painted Shield<\/a>. After the dropping the first single off the album \u201cFloat,\u201d featuring Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, and a sensual music video for the track &#8220;Lipstick Lover,&#8221; Mon\u00e1e&#8217;s first album since 2018&#8217;s twice Grammy-nominated <em>Dirty Computer<\/em>, is already shaping up to be the sound of summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview on the <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/music.apple.com\/us\/post\/1687390524\" target=\"_blank\">Zane Lowe Show<\/a><\/em>, Mon\u00e1e shares how <em>The Age of Pleasure<\/em> was written &#8220;with friends, and for friends.&#8221; She describes how the tracks of the album were &#8220;road tested&#8221; by dropping them into the set lists at her own parties, letting her friends&#8217; reactions dictate the direction of the album. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What I&#8217;d do is if I knew we were having a party on a Friday or Saturday, on a Monday or Tuesday, I&#8217;d be like &#8216;alright, we&#8217;re going to write three songs.&#8217; If the songs can&#8217;t work at the party, they&#8217;re not going on the album.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full album <em>Age of Pleasure<\/em> is out June 9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Janelle Mon\u00e1e - Float (feat. Together they created a stunning music video for their duet, \u201cArrullo,\u201d a song inspired by ranchera and ballad genres.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been wanting to write a song with Renee for some time now,\u201d says Alea. \u201cShe has been a great inspiration to me as a writer and as an artist, because of her bravery as an LGTBQ+ activist and her feminist message.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Arrullo - Alea ft. I thought that songwriting had so much dignity and so much mastery to it. I always found compelling lyrics and storytelling to be the ultimate magic trick \u2026 and I still think it&#8217;s magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before going pop\/rock, Mattel released <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"country music (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/33hAj1SghVYxDAxZxNDcyc?si=JDqZaIgJRkCRwkBXNhyGRA\" target=\"_blank\">country albums<\/a> also worth checking out! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/9N6oIiWZScQ\n<\/div><figcaption>Trixie Mattel performing with Shakey Graves on <em>Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-boygenius\">boygenius<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You might not need a reminder of the significance (and current ubiquity) of boygenius, but this list would simply be lacking without them. The supergroup, comprised of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus, released their first full-length album <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the record (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/0e9GjrztzBw8oMC6n2CDeI?si=PZvlxEWsRgC6-EhRjcXUCQ\" target=\"_blank\">the record<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>in late March, five years after their beloved self-titled EP. Shortly after releasing <em>the&nbsp;record<\/em>, they also released <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the&nbsp;film (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XbOQMaJ1r-0\" target=\"_blank\">the&nbsp;film<\/a><\/em>, directed by Kristen Stewart, and of course the name of their summer tour\u2014one of the hottest tickets of the season\u2014is called <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the&nbsp;tour (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.xboygeniusx.com\/tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">the&nbsp;tour<\/a><\/em>. Each with momentous solo careers, the three are not just partners in music but also friends\u2014a big theme that the album focuses on. In an interview with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"NPR (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/03\/26\/1166114350\/on-its-full-length-album-the-record-boygenius-friendship-has-never-been-stronger\" target=\"_blank\">NPR<\/a>, Dacus says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFriendship is something that I think about a lot. My life is defined by my friends. I feel like there\u2019s maybe some good media about friendships, but not a ton. Romance also has typical touchstones, whereas every friendship is so unique. I kind of feel like there&#8217;s even more there to play with. So why aren\u2019t people doing it?
