Hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece, he has traveled the world as a performer, and in 2022 he settled into Boston to start his music studies at Berklee Online. He says his goal is to become an ambassador of Greek music in the United States, in a similar way that Greek musicians brought jazz back from the US in the twentieth century, and put their own spin on it.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of musicians would go to the US and perform with the musicians here and would learn jazz and blues,\u201d he says. \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t really popular in Greece at the time \u2026 It\u2019s the kind of music that is missed out on. \u2026 And I really want to share this type of music with people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u039f\u03b9 \u03b1\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b5\u03c2 \u03bc\u03bf\u03c5\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wvr_rVo0Dh8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Christos Karantais performing the song \u201c\u039f\u03b9 \u03b1\u03b3\u03ac\u03c0\u03b5\u03c2 \u03bc\u03bf\u03c5\u201d <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Christos started his musical journey thanks to his grandfather, who was a cantor for his local Greek Orthodox church in Thessaloniki.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt least every Sunday we were listening to his divine melodies of Byzantine music,\u201d he says. \u201cHe used to sing great old songs and he had a good voice.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After discovering a cassette player at his grandparents\u2019 house, he started focusing on music, paying special attention to the lyrics, which he would memorize and sing back. He discovered and drew inspiration from the music of <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/4epy8uB6icBmTU3VoMwVzG?si=BE6e8WGqQJ6odTBY6QfCcA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manos Hadjidakis<\/a><a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/4epy8uB6icBmTU3VoMwVzG?si=BE6e8WGqQJ6odTBY6QfCcA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>, who similarly moved from Greece to the US, where he wrote and recorded some of his most popular works.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u039c\u03ac\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2 \u03a7\u03b1\u03c4\u03b6\u03b9\u03b4\u03ac\u03ba\u03b9\u03c2 - \u0389\u03c1\u03b8\u03b5 \u0392\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03ac\u03c2, \u0389\u03c1\u03b8\u03b5 \u039d\u03bf\u03c4\u03b9\u03ac\u03c2 \/ North Wind, South Wind (Official Audio Release)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xzHGRVlUAro?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Manos Hadjidakis performing \u201cIrthe Vorias Irthe Notias\u201d or \u201cNorth Wind, South Wind\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe [Manos Hadjidakis] shaped me to become the person I am today and I\u2019m really grateful for his music,\u201d says Christos. \u201cIt\u2019s music that really makes you feel and that\u2019s what I focus on when connecting to the people as a singer; I think about how I can make them feel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transition from singing at home to singing professionally in front of an audience started out casually. At the age of 17 Christos was hanging out in a bar with a friend who happened to have a guitar, and they started playing and singing together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone joined our informal performance,\u201d he recalls. \u201cIt was exciting, because I never sang in front of an audience before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That one performance eventually led to several musical projects, including the band Notas del Alma, where Christos sang in Greek, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and French. He was also the founder of the Gents, a five-member band that played Greek jazz, Bossa nova, Spanish classics, and standard jazz. And through these projects he began to develop into a band leader.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Notas Del Alma 17\/3\/2016\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lw7yuev7wrQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Christos Karantais performing with the band Notas del Alma<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a frontman I want to express myself,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s completely different when you have a big band: It gives you a different boost. A singer has to have reached the point to release themselves and become one with a crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a year in the <a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/music-degrees\/undergraduate\/voice-performance?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-link-from-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Voice Performance program (opens in a new tab)\">Voice Performance program<\/a>, Christos says he has found the experience both humbling and electrifying.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI really enjoy my private lessons, because they make me realize that I don\u2019t really know anything,\u201d he says. \u201cI have a feeling that these classes are going to enhance my personality, because I feel like all of this is giving me the opportunity to become more of
