In 2026, we celebrate Oscar Barcelli, Mackenzie Christensen, Colin Foley, Yanmin Hu, Paul Kinsman, Joshua Misko, Kevin Moran, and Donald Shipman for their outstanding achievements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach year, I look forward to hearing how our students define themselves as producers,\u201d says Gonzalez M\u00fcller. \u201cThese projects reflect a careful listening practice and a deep respect for the artistic process. It is rewarding to see this level of growth, and I congratulate our award-winners for setting such a high, meaningful standard.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners were selected based on their&nbsp; Culminating Experience projects, where they apply all the knowledge learned throughout the Music Production master\u2019s degree program. As is the tradition, this year\u2019s winners were based on performance, mixing, and creativity in music production, with the ultimate goal of incentivizing emerging music producers to foster innovation, with sponsors providing students the tools to fuel their success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oscar-barcelli\">Oscar Barcelli<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_oscar.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Oscar on a dark green background holding  two drum sticks.\" class=\"wp-image-27828\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oscarbarcelli.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oscar Barcelli<\/a> was born and raised in Lima, Peru, and currently lives in Los Angeles, where he works as a producer, educator, and performer. He started his master\u2019s with no previous knowledge of technical music production, so he says winning the Slate Digital Award felt like a huge accomplishment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThanks to the incredible guidance of my professors, I was able to develop those skills and gain confidence in areas that once felt intimidating,\u201d says Barcelli. \u201cToday, I feel comfortable producing, editing, mixing, and mastering a variety of projects, which is something I never imagined a few years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By blending Afro-Peruvian music and Latin jazz in his projects, he says his goal is to reach audiences around the world. He credits Eva Ayll\u00f3n and Susana Baca with deepening his understanding of Afro-Peruvian music, opening doors to honor his culture, explore innovative approaches, and tell a story through unconventional pathways.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI strive to respect the identity of each artist and project while bringing my own musical perspective to the process,\u201d says Barcelli. \u201cMy goal is to combine strong musicianship, cultural authenticity, and modern production techniques to create music that feels both timeless and relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Novos Caminhos\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/2Xe6iefoTW3HKS49J6pEF5?si=156c1cbef45e464c&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Barcelli says that winning the Slate Digital Award has made him reflect on his intention of creating music for educational purposes, where audiences can learn about Afro-Peruvian rhythms and instruments.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReceiving this award is especially meaningful because it reminds me of all the work that happened behind the scenes: the late nights in front of the computer, replaying the same lesson over and over until I understood a concept, making mistakes, and learning through trial and error.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mackenzie-christensen\">MacKenzie Christensen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_mackenzie.jpg\" alt=\"A headshot of MacKenzie. \" class=\"wp-image-27827\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacKenzie Christen, another winner of the Slate Digital Award Honoring Excellent Mixing in Music Production, spends his days teaching music production, digital media, and design in Connecticut. When it comes to music production, he says his main focus is to create music that is born from emotion, always using curiosity as a tool to innovate and explore new sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I start a project, I try to hold onto the feeling I had the first time I heard a song and make decisions that support that emotion,\u201d says Christensen. \u201cWe only get a few minutes with a song, and I want listeners to feel immersed in that world for as long as they\u2019re there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christensen says he is mostly inspired by artists like MUNA, The 1975, Fiona Apple, John Mayer, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Dean,<strong> <\/strong>who he says remain authentic, creating strong emotional connections with their audiences. Dan Nigro and Jack Antonoff have also influenced him on the production side, given their ability to preserve what\u2019s unique about the artists they work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Honey\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/6Gz6Pm8MAqsVquD98h4Wso?si=2878ff8bf0dc41d6&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Christensen is currently working on his first solo album, as well as collaborative projects with his friend Ryan Burns, indie-pop artist <a href=\"https:\/\/kelaska.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kelaska<\/a>, and the hardcore band Wilson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery artist hears and experiences music differently, and I\u2019ve learned some of my biggest lessons through collaboration,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019ve found that it\u2019s important not to dismiss ideas too quickly. Sometimes the suggestion you think won\u2019t work ends up being exactly what the song needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from producing, Christensen has been spending his days creating a music production curriculum as a high school teacher and attending seminars such as  <a href=\"https:\/\/mixwiththemasters.com\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mix With The Masters<\/a> in Paris, a masterclass hosted by Grammy-winning engineer, mixer, and producer <a href=\"https:\/\/mcdman.com\/scheps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andrew Scheps<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCreativity is something you have to practice,\u201d he says. \u201cThe more consistently you create, the more opportunities you give yourself to discover something new.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-colin-foley\">Colin Foley<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_colin.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Colin Foley in a recording studio. \" class=\"wp-image-27822\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthtocofo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colin Foley<\/a> won the Izotope Award, honoring excellent creativity in music production. Inspired by the poetic production approaches of Pharrell Williams and Boards of Canada\u2019s ability to evoke nostalgia, Foley says he aims to produce music that captures emotion through a colorful and imaginative style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy goal is always to serve the artistic vision and communicate something authentic,\u201d says Foley. \u201cI often approach music the way a storyteller approaches a narrative, thinking carefully about how each sound, performance, and production choice serves as its own distinct character while contributing to the story as a whole.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says his degree program inspired all the projects he is currently working on under his artistic name, COFO (the first two letters of his first and last names). In his latest productions, he blends natural ambient and electronic sounds, alluding to places that hold personal significance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI truly cherished every moment of my master\u2019s program at Berklee, and it has played a major role in both my artistic and personal growth,\u201d says Foley. \u201cThese projects incorporate field recording and Foley art, which are two of my favorite creative and recording practices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"COFO - FRIERI (VISUALIZER)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gsqK_fd0WFg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mc3.edu\/degrees-and-programs\/programs\/creative-arts\/sound-recording-and-music-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sound Recording and Music Technology<\/a> program at Montgomery County Community College, he says his experience at Berklee Online empowered him to become a better educator. Foley gives his students not only the technical skills, but also different ways in which they can approach creating music with intentionality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy studies at Berklee helped me refine not only my craft as a producer and engineer, but also my ability to teach, mentor, and support the next generation of creative professionals,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-yanmin-hu\">Yanmin Hu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_yanmin.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Yanmin pointing at his degree.\" class=\"wp-image-27830\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yanhim Hu is a recipient of the Slate Digital Award, which he says was a surprising accomplishment for him after only five years of studying music. Coming from Guangdong, China, Hu says he is inspired by multiple genres across the globe, blending pop, R&amp;B, rock, and trap into his work. In all of his productions, Hu talks about the importance of creating genuine and memorable sounds by creatively using emotion as the main source of inspiration.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis award reinforced my belief that every minute spent refining a song is worthwhile. It motivates me to keep pushing for excellence and never stop improving,\u201d says Hu.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his life, he has been influenced by artists like Linkin Park, Pendulum, Charlie Puth, Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, and Drake, who he says have enhanced his production and songwriting skills to connect better with his audience. Hu is currently working on a multi-genre project that includes pop, rock, and drum and bass, where he helps artists bring their ideas to life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe that trust is the foundation of every successful creative collaboration, and I strive to build that connection with every artist I work with,\u201d he says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: When It Feels So Good\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/4ttLP38LWfd8CuuMWHUPtA?si=2d2c70efd20c4285&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hu mentions that his experience at Berklee Online taught him different approaches in music production, where he gained a deeper understanding of how to balance the technicalities with artistic vision. He says collaborations with classmates from different countries gave him insights into different musical perspectives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat I am most proud of is the growth I achieved throughout the program. The experience challenged me to become a more dedicated producer, as well as a more critical listener,\u201d says Hu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-paul-kinsman\">Paul Kinsman<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_paul.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Paul with his left hand on his face. \" class=\"wp-image-27829\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul Kinsman won the Sweetwater Sound Award, honoring excellent performance in music production. As a teacher himself, Kinsman says when he completed his master\u2019s degree, he took with him the inspiration from his own teachers and colleagues who encouraged him to produce with emotional intent and helped him grow as a professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy teachers and mentors are increasingly front-of-mind these days,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinsman says the fact that Berklee Online enabled him to work and study at the same time meant that he could apply what he learned to his professional life on a daily basis. That success didn\u2019t come overnight. Before earning his master\u2019s degree, Kinsman had to overcome an early setback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am most proud of achieving this master\u2019s degree while working a full-time job as a teacher and becoming a father,\u201d says Kinsman. \u201cI am also proud of the fact that I didn\u2019t give up the first time I got turned down from Berklee Online. I studied harder and produced a better portfolio and was accepted a year later. I entered the program knowing that out of everyone in the (Zoom) room, I had the most to grow, and that excited me.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinsman says he is excited about his current collaborative work with singer Lexi Weege, whom he refers to as \u201ca powerhouse vocalist with a compelling songwriting style.\u201d He is credited as an executive producer on her <em>Renaissance Painting<\/em> EP from 2025, and he\u2019s currently working with her on her new album.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe data-testid=\"embed-iframe\" style=\"border-radius:12px\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/3GAw5SoVLTr9cD59qYK4g0?utm_source=generator&#038;si=845444022f304d4e\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameBorder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to being a producer, he is also a bandleader and pianist for multiple ensembles as well as an educator in western Massachusetts. He says this master\u2019s degree equipped him with knowledge and experiences that led him to refine his school\u2019s Music Technology program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn my career as a teacher, the Berklee Online degree helped me to achieve professional status in my district while building up my school\u2019s Music Technology and Recording program,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-joshua-misko\">Joshua Misko<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_josh.jpg\" alt=\"A headshot of Joshua on a white background wearing a blue shirt. \" class=\"wp-image-27825\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/joshmisko.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joshua Misko<\/a> also won the Slate Digital Award Honoring Excellent Mixing in Music Production. Misko is an American-Canadian producer, writer, and entrepreneur who founded <a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/event-ticketing-is-broken-berklee-online-alum-josh-misko-wants-to-fix-it\/?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;tum_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seatfun<\/a>, a ticketing app that allows users to manage events, sell tickets, receive payments, and more. As a student who merges music production and business, he is honored to be recognized by Slate Digital.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a fan of Slate Digital\u2019s products since my start at Berklee, so being recognized in connection with a company whose tools are already part of my creative process makes the experience even more meaningful,\u201d says Misko.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Misko focuses on the genres of singer-songwriter, adult contemporary, and acoustic-driven songs, drawing inspiration from artists like Paul McCartney, the Everly Brothers, Noah Kahan, and the Zac Brown Band. He says working from both Nashville and Cincinnati has allowed him to explore pop, R&amp;B, gospel, and country artists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am actively expanding my co-writing catalog and love working across all genres as a songwriter. I find it incredibly fulfilling to co-create something that might not have naturally come from me as an artist if I were sitting alone with an acoustic guitar,\u201d says Misko.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: I Found Myself\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/0TPG1lw90bcfGDVjJ6e3Sf?si=571b3880440248f8&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Although Misko enrolled to become a stronger producer and engineer, he says the biggest takeaway was the community he found along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI came to Berklee to strengthen my engineering skills and become a more self-sufficient producer for my own music. What I took away, however, was much more than that. I gained new colleagues, mentors, and lifelong connections, along with the opportunity to further contribute to our industry as a Berklee alumnus,\u201d says Misko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-kevin-moran\">Kevin Moran<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_kevin.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Kevin on a orange background, holding drum sticks. \" class=\"wp-image-27826\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kevinmoran.music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kevin Moran<\/a>, another recipient of the Sweetwater Sound Award, grew up in Norfolk, Massachusetts, but his career as a producer, percussionist, and educator eventually took him to Val Verde, California. Drawing on his background in world percussion, he blends organic instrumentation with modern production techniques.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am drawn to music that feels organic, while exploring all the vast possibilities of modern-day music production,\u201d he says. \u201cMy goal is to create music that serves as a bridge between these two worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moran\u2019s Culminating Experience project became the starting point for two major projects he is currently working on. <em>After The Rain<\/em>, his first full-length solo release, and <em>Electrical Theatrics<\/em>, the second album from his duo Vermiculite, carry forward many of the musical ideas and production techniques he began developing for his final project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Vermiculite\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/4OIqg2iQeOvvxFb7WvDD2b?si=fvRrmjanSm2NjZFbXpGcGA&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He credits Berklee Online instructors <a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/instructors\/enrique-gonzalez-muller?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;tum_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enrique Gonzalez M\u00fcller<\/a> with sharpening his attention to detail and <a href=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/instructors\/sean-slade?campaign_id=7010Z000001ZkQgQAK&amp;pid=&amp;utm_source=takenote&amp;tum_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=bol-gen-takenote-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sean Slade<\/a> with reigniting his \u201cchildlike love of deeply listening,\u201d lessons he tries to carry into his own teaching at Los Angeles County\u2019s juvenile detention center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have witnessed these young people overcome significant challenges, build trust across differences, and work together toward the shared goal of performing as a drumline,\u201d says Moran. \u201cWatching them persevere through difficult rhythms, develop confidence, and grow both individually and as a team has given me so much hope for the youth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-donald-shipman\">Donald Shipman<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/online.berklee.edu\/takenote\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/music_production_award_winners_article_image_2026_donald.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of Donald against a white wall holding a blue jacket. \" class=\"wp-image-27823\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsmuzikinc.com\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Shipman\u2019s<\/a> creative approaches in music production won him the Izotope Award, honoring his hard work on his cumulative project. He says his love for different music genres, including jazz, R&amp;B, pop, and gospel, led him to explore creative production techniques.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWinning this award was a complete surprise for me, but it felt amazing to be recognized for the hard work I\u2019ve done,\u201d says Shipman. \u201cIzotope is a big part of my toolset in producing, and I utilized it in most of my work at Berklee.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing inspiration from artists like H.E.R., Kehlani, Charlie Puth, Lucky Daye, and Leon Thomas, Shipman is currently working with smooth jazz and R&amp;B musicians, producing music he says he hopes will bring people together.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the executive producer and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/dsmuzikinc.com\/donald-shipman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DS Muzik<\/a>, a production company based in Alabama, studying at Berklee Online gave him the possibility to grow as a professional while working with local artists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe online aspect gave me the flexibility to study, learn, and actively apply what I have learned at the same time,\u201d says Shipman. \u201cI am proud that I can tangibly hear my development and growth in production and I owe that to Berklee for pushing me.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shipman did arrangement, keys, strings, and drum programming on the song <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/5SEvRaGrqKtONl7meMulTj?si=4762171239ca4f18\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/5SEvRaGrqKtONl7meMulTj?si=4762171239ca4f18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cHoly Fire,\u201d<\/a> by The Sound of the Rock, featuring Curtiss Glenn, which reached No. 4 on the <em>Billboard<\/em> Gospel chart.
