Issues Launching a Zoom Meeting via Safari on iOS

Updated on January 11th, 2024

Occasionally, when trying to launch or join a Zoom meeting for a live class via Safari an iOS or iPadOS device, such as an iPhone or iPad, students may run into a common issue where the meeting does not initiate. This is because of how iOS handles pop-up blocking, specifically in Safari.

When you tap the Join Live Class button within your course environment, a pop-up appears behind the scenes, redirecting to the meeting in Zoom. If nothing appears to happen when you tap this button, it's likely that your device is blocking this pop-up. To rectify this:

  1. Open the Settings application on your iOS device
  2. Navigate to the section for Safari
  3. Turn off the toggle for Block Pop-ups

Now, when you attempt to join a live class, Safari will not block the pop-up, and your meeting should successfully launch in Zoom.
