If you are planning to show a video while sharing your screen in a Zoom meeting, below are some steps you can take to ensure the experience is as smooth as possible for meeting participants.
First, if you are going to be sharing video from Google Chrome using any streaming service such as YouTube or Netflix, you'll need to disable hardware acceleration in the browser. This will ensure others can see the video, and is covered in Steps 1-3 below. If you aren't planning on doing that, skip ahead to Step 4.
- Click the three-dotted icon at the top right of Chrome, then select Settings.
- Select System from the list on left hand side of the Settings page.
- Make sure the setting for Use hardware acceleration when available is turned off. If it wasn't already off, you'll need to click the Relaunch button that will appear next to the on/off switch, which will relaunch Chrome and allow the change to take affect.
- Start the Zoom meeting, or navigate back to it if it is already open.
- Click the green Share Screen button at the bottom of the Zoom window. If you don't see the Share Screen button, it's likely because the Zoom window is too small to display it. In that case, either expand the window until you see the Share Screen button, or click the More button and then select Share Screen.
- A new window will open displaying your sharing options. At the bottom left corner of that window, you'll see options to Share sound and Optimize for video clip. Check the box next to Optimize for video clip, which will automatically check the box for Share sound as well.
- Select the window you want to share, then click the blue Share button in the bottom right corner. This will start sharing your screen with those in the meeting.
