How to Share Audio in Zoom

Updated on February 23rd, 2024

If you would like to share your computer's audio in a Zoom meeting, you can do so in a couple of different ways. You can choose to share only your audio, or share a view of your screen along with your audio. You can find instructions for both of these methods below.

Sharing Audio Only

To share your computer's audio in Zoom without sharing your screen, take the following steps:

  1. Start the Zoom meeting, or navigate back to Zoom if it is already open.
  2. Click the green Share Screen button at the bottom of the Zoom window. If you don't see the Share Screen button, it's likely because the Zoom window is too small to display it. In that case, either expand the window until you see the Share Screen button, or click the More button, then select Share Screen.

1. A new window will open displaying your sharing options. At the top of the window, you will see tabs for Basic and Advanced. Click Advanced, then select Computer Audio for the source you would like to share.
  2. Share Stereo (High-fidelity) audio by clicking the dropdown arrow on the Computer Audio panel, and making sure Stereo (High-fidelity) is selected (checked).

  1. Click the blue Share button in the bottom right corner. This will start sharing your computer audio for other meeting participants to hear.
  2. If you are sharing audio from a DAW, make sure the DAW's output device is set to ZoomAudioDevice. Note that the output for most other applications will not need to be changed from your computer's default system setting.
  3. A green indicator at the top of Zoom will let you know that audio is being shared, with a red Stop Share button next to it for when you're ready to stop sharing audio.

Allow Screensharing on Mac

For macOS users, certain permissions that are needed for screensharing with Zoom are disabled by default, and will need to be enabled the first time you share the screen.

See the following article on how to accomplish this: How to Grant Permissions for Screensharing Using Zoom on macOS

  1. If you are sharing audio from a DAW, make sure the DAW's output device is set to ZoomAudioDevice. Note that the output for most other applications will not need to be changed from your computer's default system setting.
  2. The Zoom control panel will remain on your screen, but will not be visible to other meeting participants. A green indicator on the control panel will let you know that your screen is being shared, with a red Stop Share button next to it for when you're ready to stop screensharing.
