Allowing Pop-ups and Redirects in Your Browser

Updated on January 11th, 2024

Internet browsers will often block pop-up windows and site redirects by default. This can sometimes cause issues for users. For example, clicking the Join button on a Live Class can be treated as a redirect to Zoom, so your browser may block this action completely, not allowing you to join. You can take the steps below to allow all pop-ups and redirects in your browser.

Chrome

Computer

If a pop-up/redirect is being blocked, a small red icon should appear at the far right of the address bar (just to the left of the bookmark star icon). Clicking the red icon will give you the option to allow the pop-ups to open.

If you do not see a red banner, you can instead paste “chrome://settings/content/popups” into the address bar and press return/enter. On the resulting page, you can allow pop-ups and redirects on all sites under the Default Behavior section, or add specific sites in the Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects section.

To only allow pop-ups/redirects from Berklee Online, press the Add button in the Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects section, enter “bocce.online.berklee.edu”, then click Add.

Mobile

If a pop-up or redirect is being blocked, a banner will appear across the bottom part of your screen. Clicking that banner will give you the option to allow the pop-up to open.

If a pop-up is being blocked, a small rectangular icon will appear at the far right of the address bar (just to the left of the refresh icon). If you hover over this icon, “Show blocked pop-up window” will appear. Clicking the rectangular icon will give you the option to allow pop-ups to open.

Pop-ups/redirects can be allowed by going to Settings > Safari and turning Block Pop-ups off.

  4. To allow all pop-ups, uncheck the box next to Block pop-up windows to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.
