Will Dailey on Crowdfunding and Getting Music Placed on TV

How Will Dailey Crowdfunded His Independence and Landed a Spot on CSI: NY

Will Dailey has sold his car for rock ‘n’ roll! He’s also walked away from a major label deal, and walked towards the loving funds of his fans. He talks about his upcoming album, Golden Walker, made possible by his latest crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMusic, and his ups and downs in the industry, which includes an appearance in CSI: NY. (See below!)

“I remember the night CSI aired, I had a panic attack,” he says. “I’m in a fictional show, playing myself. … I was like, ‘I don’t want to be on a TV show. I don’t want people to know me for one song!’”

Despite the panic, the choice ended up being a good one, he says.

As for having Gary Sinise play bass in his band, Dailey says, “It was a really fun experience. He was really particular about, ‘oh, on the recording [the original bassist on the song] is sliding, so I want to make sure I have continuity of me sliding.’”

Sinise, who plays in a group called The Lt. Dan Band, named after his character in Forest Gump, often plays gigs for veterans and active duty military members. Dailey says he was impressed with his chops: “He’s a good bass player!”
