Andrea Stolpe has won the 2022 Exemplary Teaching Award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association. This award honors a professional, continuing, or online education faculty member for outstanding teaching, and Andrea was honored at the 2022 UPCEA New England Region Conference this month.

UPCEA is not the only organization that thinks Stolpe is an exemplary teacher. In 2021 she received an Exemplary Faculty Award from Berklee. That award, nominated by students, recognizes a Berklee Online faculty member who exemplifies Berklee’s commitment to educational excellence and student experience. Andrea is a multiplatinum songwriter and the author of the course Commercial Songwriting Techniques, as well as an instructor for Lyric Writing: Writing From the Title and Lyric Writing: Writing Lyrics to Music.

In accepting the 2021 award, Andrea said, “I have taught lyric writing for 17 years with Berklee Online, and yet I struggle to find words to express my gratitude for this honor. … 103,680 posted assignments—that is how many times I’ve clicked the respond button with feedback attempting to understand, reflect, challenge, and encourage. When I consider the weight these words can have, particularly for students who are risking, reaching, and hoping they have something to contribute through music, it is 103,680 chances to change a life. To everyone at Berklee Online, thank you for making a space for instructors like myself to form and refine a pedagogy impactful enough to deeply and positively affect lives through music.”

In addition to her 103,680 responses to students, Andrea has been a frequent contributor to the Take Note site, providing additional songwriting insight that enhance the learning she provides in her classes.
