Andrew Blake is a researcher and music educator, specializing in music theory and cognition. Mr. Blake is a PhD candidate in music theory at the Eastman School of Music. Mr. Blake also holds a MA in music theory from Kent State University, as well as a BM in performance (trombone) and a BS in computer science from Wright State University. His research largely focuses on corpus analysis, and his dissertation explores the role of complexity in jazz improvisation. He also teaches theory courses at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance, and serves as an editorial assistant for Music Theory Online. His cats (Opie and Lyra) are known to make appearances during his online classes and office hour meetings.
